What this comparison can show
Win rate, goals per match and goals conceded per match allow limited comparison across schedules of different lengths. They describe what each team did within its own league programme. They do not prove that a team from one era would defeat a team from another.
Points are deliberately excluded from the comparative rates. The 1907–08, 1947–48 and 1967–68 records used two points for a win, while the Premier League records used three. Converting old seasons to modern points would create a hypothetical total rather than preserve the historical competition.

Formulas and reproducibility
- Win rate: wins divided by played, multiplied by 100.
- Goals for per match: league goals scored divided by played.
- Goals against per match: league goals conceded divided by played.
- Goal difference: goals for minus goals against.
The generated JSON data file contains the input records used here. Each row links to its season page, where sources and competition context are recorded. The generator validates that played equals wins plus draws plus losses before publishing.
Limits of the selected sample
This is not a ranking of every championship team. The sample was chosen to provide coverage across the Mangnall, Busby and Ferguson waves while keeping the table legible. Tactical systems, pitch conditions, substitutions, competitive balance and season length changed substantially. The rates support description, not a universal quality score.
