Joint top scorers: Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Šeško (12 goals each in all competitions). [3]

Season in focus

Third place was built on a markedly stronger second half. United collected 41 league points after 1 January, one more than champions Arsenal, and a late win at Brighton confirmed a return to the Champions League. The summer forwards gave the campaign a different profile: Mbeumo and Sesko both reached double figures in the league, while Matheus Cunha did likewise. That spread mattered more than a single scorer; it helped turn a difficult previous season into the club’s highest points total since 2022–23. [1] [3] [4]

Measuring the domestic recovery

United’s 20 league wins were nine more than in 2024–25, while goals scored rose from 44 to 69. Across the same 38-match schedule, the scoring rate increased from 1.16 to 1.82 per game.

The 50 goals conceded left a +19 goal difference. Third place and 71 points record the recovery, but the full-season totals do not isolate the contribution of a particular manager or signing. They provide a baseline for assessing whether later teams sustain the improvement.
