Profile

Eddie Colman was one of the youngest and most distinctive Busby Babes. Known by the nickname Snakehips because of his movement, he brought balance, close control and personality to United's midfield before his life and career were cut short by Munich.

Colman's game was built on agility and confidence. He was not a physically imposing midfielder in the later United captain mould; his value came from how he received the ball, shifted away from pressure and helped keep Busby's young side moving. That kind of skill was central to the Babes' appeal. They were not merely young and brave. They could play.

His role in the team has to be understood through the collective. The Babes depended on relationships between players developing together, and Colman was part of that rhythm. His ability to keep possession and connect phases of play helped give the more attacking players better situations from which to hurt opponents.

He died after the Munich air disaster at 21. As with several teammates, the lack of a later career makes certainty difficult. There is no long decline, no transfer, no mature reinvention. The record is young, vivid and incomplete.

Colman's legacy survives through both memory and style. He represents the technical charm of the Busby Babes: a midfielder remembered not only because he was lost, but because the way he played helped explain why that team was loved so strongly in the first place.
